What is a rigid gift box?

A rigid box starts as panels of greyboard, a dense board that does not flex the way folding card does. The panels are joined, then wrapped in paper printed with your design or in a plain coloured paper.

The result is a box that stands up on its own, stacks without crushing and feels solid when you lift the lid. People tend to keep them for storage, which keeps your logo in sight long after the gift has gone.

Rigid boxes suit gifts with a higher value or a longer life: a skincare set, a watch, a bottle, a keepsake from a wedding. For a box that is opened once and thrown away, folding card is usually the better spend.

Which styles are made rigid?

Eight boxes on the site are made this way. They differ in how they open and what they are shaped to hold.

  • Magnetic lid gift boxes, with a hinged flap and hidden magnets.
  • Rigid lid and base gift boxes, the classic two-piece shape.
  • Drawer gift boxes, a tray that slides out of a wrapped sleeve.
  • Book style gift boxes, with a cover that opens sideways.
  • Foldable gift boxes, which open out from flat and close with magnets.
  • Presentation boxes, shallow boxes for awards and sample sets.
  • Jewellery gift boxes, small boxes with an insert for one piece.
  • Round gift boxes, a tube with a lift-off lid.

How do the rigid styles compare?

All eight take 8–10 working days after proof approval. The table shows what sets them apart. Sizes are guidance only, as every box is made to the inside size you send.

How long do rigid gift boxes take, and what do they cost?

Rigid boxes take 8–10 working days to make once you approve the proof. Wrapping each box by hand takes longer than cutting and creasing card, so we would rather tell you that up front.

They are also quoted higher than folding card. Our £0.25 a box starting price is for folding card styles; your quote, sent within one working day, shows the real rigid price for your size, finish and quantity.

If the date or budget is tight, a folding card box may do the job. Compare the options on the folding gift boxes range.

Which wrap and finishes work on rigid boxes?

The outer paper can be printed in full colour or left as a plain coloured paper with just a logo. Many rigid boxes contrast the outside with a different colour inside the base, as a dark lid over a bright tray.

Matt, gloss or soft-touch lamination goes over the print. Foil in gold, silver, rose gold or a colour, embossing, debossing and spot UV are added on top. The guide to gift box finishes shows how each one looks.

Which inserts and extras suit a rigid box?

A rigid box is often holding something that should not move. Card, foam or pulp inserts are cut to the product, so bottles, jars or a ring sit in their own space.

Ribbon pulls help drawers slide out, ribbon ties close round boxes, and hidden magnets hold flaps shut. On a magnetic lid box you feel the flap pulled down the last few millimetres as it closes. A clear window, rope or card handles, tissue and belly bands are all options to ask about.

How do you order rigid gift boxes?

  1. Choose the style, or describe the product and we suggest one.
  2. Send the inside size in millimetres as length, width and height.
  3. Tell us the wrap colour, finish and any insert or ribbon.
  4. Your quote arrives within one working day.
  5. Approve the free design proof, with edits until you are happy.
  6. Allow 8–10 working days for production, then 2–3 for free tracked UK mainland delivery.

Minimums are low and quoted per job. Start your rigid gift box quote with the style and size.

Rigid Gift Boxes: questions

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or call +44 7578 382054.

What is greyboard?

It is a thick, dense board used as the core of rigid boxes. It is never seen, because the wrapping paper covers it inside and out.

Why do rigid boxes take 8–10 working days?

Each box is assembled from board panels and wrapped by hand. That is slower than printing and cutting folding card, which takes 4–6 working days.

How much more does a rigid box cost than folding card?

It depends on size, wrap and finishes. The quote gives you the exact price within one working day, so you can compare before deciding.

Do rigid gift boxes arrive built?

Yes, all except the foldable style, which arrives flat and opens out into a rigid box when you need it.

Can the wrap be a plain colour with just a logo?

Yes. A coloured paper wrap with a foil or printed logo is a common choice, and it keeps the look simple.

Can the inside of a rigid box be a different colour?

Yes. The tray or base can be wrapped in a second paper, which is how a dark outside with a bright inside is made.

Are rigid boxes strong enough to stack?

Yes, they hold their shape when stacked on a shelf. For posting, pack them inside an outer carton.

Which rigid style is best for a gift set?

A magnetic lid or book style box with a cut insert holds several items in a set layout and opens to show them all at once.

Can I get a rigid box for one ring?

Yes. A jewellery gift box of about 60 × 60 × 40 mm with a slotted insert is a common starting size for a ring.

How do I measure for a rigid box?

Measure the product, add room for the insert, and send the inside size. Our guide on measuring for an inside size explains it step by step.
