What are round gift boxes?

Round gift boxes are rigid tubes of greyboard with a base and a lift-off lid, both wrapped in printed paper. They hold their shape when stacked and handled. People use them for candles, flowers, hats, sweets and keepsakes.

Typical sizeInside L × W × H (mm)Often used for
Small80 × 80 × 60Candle, balm
Medium150 × 150 × 100Treats, soap set
Large220 × 220 × 150Flowers, hamper
Hat box300 × 300 × 200Hats, bouquets

What are round gift boxes and who orders them?

A round gift box is a rigid cylinder with a base and a lid. There are no corners to crush, and the curved wall feels different in the hand from a square box.

Candle makers and florists order them most. Milliners use the largest size as a hat box. Sweet shops, cosmetics brands and wedding planners use the smaller sizes for gifts that should feel like a keepsake.

They belong to our rigid gift boxes made from greyboard, so they are built to be kept and reused.

How does the lid of a round box fit?

The lid is a shallow cylinder slightly wider than the base. It slides down over the top of the base wall and stays put by friction. You lift it straight up to open.

Lid depth is your choice. A shallow lid shows more of the base wall and its print, as in the coral and navy sample. A deep lid covers most of the base, which suits a two-colour look like the plum and pink set.

For a tighter feel, the base can have an inner neck that the lid closes down onto. Ask about it on your quote.

What size round box fits my product?

For a round box, the first two figures are the diameter, measured inside. These four sizes are a guide to start from. We make yours to your own measurements.

SizeInside size (mm, diameter × height)Fits about
Smallabout 80 × 60A single jar candle or a few truffles
Mediumabout 150 × 100A larger candle, a soap and lotion pair, a small posy
Largeabout 220 × 150A flower arrangement, a pamper set, a cake tin
Hat boxabout 300 × 200A folded hat, a scarf set or a large bouquet

Measure the widest point of your product and add a few millimetres. Our gift box size guide shows more examples.

Why are round boxes made from rigid board?

A round wall needs board that keeps its curve. Rigid greyboard is formed into a tube, then wrapped in printed paper, so the box stays round under a stack of others.

That is also why the price is higher than our folding card styles. Prices on the site start from £0.25 a box for folding card, while round rigid boxes are quoted higher on your quote.

Rigid boxes are made in 8–10 working days after you approve the proof. They arrive made up, ready to fill.

Can a curved box be printed all the way round?

Yes. The wrap paper is printed flat and then wrapped around the wall, so stripes, patterns and text run the full circle. There is one join where the paper meets, and our designers place it at the back.

The lid top, the lid rim, the base wall and the inside can each have their own design. The sample with a dark lid and a bright inside shows how much a printed inside adds when the lid comes off.

Choose matt, gloss or soft-touch lamination. Foil in gold, silver, rose gold or a colour works well on the lid top. See gift box finishes explained in detail for how each one looks.

Ribbons, handles and inserts for round boxes

  • Ribbon tie: a satin ribbon crosses the lid and finishes in a bow, as in the kraft-coloured sample. It also keeps the lid on.
  • Gathered bow: a ready-made bow fixed to the lid centre, for a box that is handed over rather than posted.
  • Rope handles: fitted through the wall of the hat box size so it can be carried.
  • Round inserts: a card or foam disc with cut-outs holds candles, jars or bottles upright.
  • Tissue: a sheet folded over the product before the lid goes on.

Florists often pair a round box with water-holding foam. Our flower gift boxes for arrangements page covers that use in detail.

Can I order round boxes as a nested set?

Yes. A set of two or three round boxes, each a little smaller than the last, packs inside one another for storage. One of the photos shows a set of three in plum with pink lids.

Each size is made to its own measurement, so give us the inside size for all of them. Sets work well on a shop shelf, as a bridal gift, or as a stack tied with one long ribbon.

Keep the gap between sizes even. A difference of about 20 to 30 millimetres in diameter lets each box lift out cleanly without the set rattling inside its bigger partner.

Which occasions suit a round gift box?

A round box reads as a gift straight away, so it works across the year. Buyers use them for Valentine's Day roses, Mother's Day pamper sets, wedding favours and bridesmaid gifts.

Corporate teams send a single candle or a tin of sweets in the small size. Birthday and anniversary gifts suit the medium size with a ribbon. The hat box size works for flowers, millinery and Easter treats.

Hampers and gift shops also buy a plain run with only a logo on the lid. One design then covers every season, and a printed belly band or sticker changes the message for each event.

What should I check before ordering round boxes?

A few points catch buyers out with this shape.

  • Measuring a product at its base when it is wider at the top
  • Forgetting that a ribbon bow adds height on the shelf and in the post carton
  • Placing a logo where the paper join sits on the wall
  • Choosing a very shallow lid on a heavy box, so it lifts off with the lid

Rigid round boxes arrive made up and take more room than flat-packed card. Plan shelf space before the delivery, and post them inside a plain outer carton.

Round Gift box questions

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or call +44 7578 382054.

What does the diameter mean on a round gift box quote?

It is the inside width across the circle, in millimetres. The height is measured from the floor of the base to the underside of the lid.

Does the lid of a round box stay on when you lift it?

The lid fits by friction, so the box can be picked up by its wall. A ribbon tie adds extra hold for heavier contents.

Can the lid and the base be different colours?

Yes. The lid and base are wrapped separately, so each can have its own colour or pattern, like the plum base with a pink lid.

Where does the paper join show on a round box?

Wrapping paper meets in one thin seam on the wall. Our designers place it at the back of the box, away from your logo.

Can you make a round hat box with handles?

Yes. The largest size can have rope handles fitted through the wall, so it can be carried like a traditional hat box.

Will a round box hold a jar candle upright?

Add a round card or foam insert with a cut-out for the jar. It stops the candle sliding and tipping when the box is carried.

Can florists put water-holding foam inside a round box?

Yes, but ask for a liner on the quote so moisture does not reach the paper wrap. Keep the foam damp, not soaking.

How long does a rigid round box take to make?

Allow 8–10 working days after you approve your proof. Free tracked delivery to UK mainland addresses follows in 2–3 working days.

Are round gift boxes delivered flat?

No. They are rigid and arrive made up, ready to fill. Nested sets save some room because the smaller boxes sit inside the larger ones.

Why do round boxes cost more than folding card boxes?

They are built from rigid greyboard wrapped by hand in printed paper. That takes more material and time, so they are priced above the £0.25 folding card starting point.

Can you print inside the lid of a round box?

Yes. The inside of the lid and the inside of the base can both be printed, which is a good spot for a short message.

Can I mock up my logo on a round box before getting a quote?

Try it in Design Your Gift Box, then send the result to us. Our designers turn it into a free proof on your exact size.
