What are gift card boxes?
Gift card boxes are small printed holders made for one card or voucher. Most are folding card wallets with a pocket or slot, or shallow lid and base boxes with a cut insert. They give a thin card enough presence to be handed over as a gift.

What are gift card boxes and who orders them?
A gift card on its own is a slip of plastic about the size of a bank card. Put it in a printed holder and it becomes a present someone can wrap, post or leave on a desk.
Salons, spas, restaurants, cafes, bookshops and independent fashion shops order these for the till. Gyms and studios use them for class passes. HR teams use them when staff rewards arrive as vouchers rather than objects.
Which style suits your card: wallet, tray or lid box?
The cheapest and flattest option is the fold-over wallet. A slim lid and base box with a slotted insert feels more like a gift. A rigid box with a hinged lid is for cards that carry real value or a metal finish.

How does a gift card wallet open and close?
The wallet is one printed sheet scored to fold in half. One inside panel has a glued pocket with a curved thumb cut, so the card slides in and can be pulled out with a fingertip. The front panel folds over and stays shut under its own crease.
The lid box works differently. A shallow base holds an insert with a card-shaped recess and two finger notches at the sides. The lid slides down over the base and lifts straight off. A ribbon tied around the lid keeps it closed in a handbag.
What size box fits a standard gift card?
Most plastic gift cards follow the bank card size of about 85.6 × 54 mm. Our typical sizes below are starting points, not stock sizes. We cut every holder to the item you send us.
- Card, about 95 × 65 × 15 mm: one standard card with a few millimetres of play.
- Card and note, about 120 × 90 × 20 mm: a card plus a folded message or small leaflet.
- Voucher, about 220 × 110 × 15 mm: a printed paper voucher the size of a DL leaflet.
- Keepsake, about 160 × 120 × 40 mm: a card plus a small item such as a candle tin or sample.

Which board works best for card holders?
White folding boxboard is the usual choice. It takes fine type and small logos cleanly, and it folds without cracking along the spine of a wallet. Kraft board gives a brown, papery look that suits bakeries, florists and refill shops.
If you want a hinged box that clicks shut, we make it in rigid greyboard wrapped in printed paper. That is quoted higher than folding card and takes 8–10 working days after proof approval.
Print and finishes that read well at card size
Everything on a gift card holder is small, so finishes matter more than on a large box. Foil works well for a shop name or the words on the front. It catches light when the wallet is tilted, and matt lamination around it keeps the contrast sharp.

Inserts, ribbons and small extras
A loose card rattles in a lid box and arrives at an angle. A cut insert stops that. Card inserts are the lowest cost; foam inserts hold the card snugly and look neat when the lid comes off. Both get finger notches so the card lifts out easily.

What mistakes should you avoid with gift card boxes?
- Sizing the pocket to the exact card size. Leave 2–5 mm of play or the card jams.
- Printing the card value on the box. Keep it blank and fill it in by hand or with a sticker.
- Placing fine foil text under 6 pt. It fills in; use slightly bolder type.
- Forgetting the inside. A blank inner panel wastes the space where redemption details belong.
- Ordering one style for every card. Plastic cards and paper vouchers need different sizes.

Will a gift card box fit a card that is still on its carrier?
Yes, if you give us the carrier size. We cut the pocket or insert to whatever you actually put inside, so measure the carrier rather than the card.
Can the wallet pocket hold two cards?
It can. Tell us the stack thickness and we widen the gusset of the pocket so both cards slide in without bowing the front panel.
Do you print gift card wallets without a value on them?
Most shops order them blank for the value and write it on, or add a small sticker. That way one print run covers every card amount.
Can we print redemption terms inside the wallet?
Yes. The inside panels are printed in full colour, so you can add how to redeem, an expiry line, a website or a short welcome note.
Is a foam insert worth it for a single gift card?
For a lid box, often yes. Foam stops the card sliding about and looks tidy when the lid lifts off. For a wallet you do not need one.
Will the wallet fit in a greeting card envelope?
A wallet made around a standard bank-size card folds down small enough for a C6 envelope, so it can post at letter size.
Can you make a holder for a paper voucher rather than a plastic card?
Yes. Our voucher size is about 220 × 110 mm, which suits a DL voucher. We can fold the voucher inside or hold it flat under a band.
Can gift card boxes be made from kraft board?
Yes. Kraft gives a brown, natural paper look and takes one or two colour print well. Fine detail and pale colours show more clearly on white board.
How long do gift card wallets take to make?
Folding card wallets and lid boxes take 4–6 working days after you approve the proof. Rigid hinged card boxes take 8–10 working days.
Can we add a ribbon to a gift card lid box?
Yes. We can tie satin ribbon around the lid, or fit a ribbon pull under the insert so the card lifts out by its tab.
What if the card does not fit when the boxes arrive?
