What are jewellery gift boxes?
Jewellery gift boxes are small rigid boxes with a foam or card insert that keeps one piece, or a matched set, in place. The common styles are a lift-off lid on a base and a drawer that slides out of a sleeve on a pull tab. They suit makers, jewellers and gift shops.
| Typical size | Inside L × W × H (mm) | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| Ring | 60 × 60 × 40 | One ring |
| Earring | 80 × 80 × 35 | Studs, small hoops |
| Necklace | 120 × 120 × 35 | Pendant, chain |
| Bracelet | 190 × 90 × 40 | Bangle, watch |
Who orders custom jewellery boxes?
Independent makers selling online, high street jewellers, gift shops and brands that sell a few pieces alongside clothing or candles. Corporate buyers order them for cufflinks and long service pins.
A small box matters more for jewellery than for most products. The piece itself is tiny, so the box does most of the work of making it feel like a gift.
These boxes belong to our range of rigid gift boxes, which covers every greyboard style we make.
Lid and base or drawer: how do they open?
Our photos show both. Three samples are lid and base: a black lid over a white tray, a yellow pair and a green pair. The lid slides off with a slight resistance, so it does not fall open in a pocket.
The brown samples are drawer boxes. A small ribbon tab on the front pulls the tray out of its sleeve, and the necklace sits on a dark pad as it slides into view.
A drawer box stacks neatly in a display cabinet and opens with one hand. Lid and base is simpler and gives you two printed surfaces, the lid top and the tray sides.
Some sellers pair the box with a matching paper bag and a soft pouch, as in our brown sample set. The pouch protects the piece once the box goes home, and the bag carries it out of the shop.
What size box does a ring need?
Measure the piece as it will sit in the insert, not as it lies on a table. A ring stands upright in a slot. A necklace is coiled or laid flat with the pendant centred.
| Typical size | Inside L × W × H (mm) | Usual contents |
|---|---|---|
| Ring | about 60 × 60 × 40 | One ring held upright in a slotted pad |
| Earring | about 80 × 80 × 35 | Studs or drops pushed into a flat pad |
| Necklace | about 120 × 120 × 35 | Chain and pendant laid on a pad or card |
| Bracelet | about 190 × 90 × 40 | Bangle, bracelet or a watch on a cushion |
These are guidance only. Tell us the piece and we size the box to it. Our gift box sizes page lists the starting points for every style.
What insert keeps jewellery from moving?
Every sample in our photos uses a foam pad. On the black and green boxes it is covered in a dark flocked surface. On the yellow box it is cream, which suits gold and pearl.
- Slotted foam: a single cut across the pad grips a ring band
- Pierced pad: small holes take earring posts so studs sit in a pair
- Flat pad with a card tab: a chain hooks over the tab and the pendant hangs below
- Cushion: a soft roll that a bracelet or watch wraps around
- Card insert with cut-outs: for sets of two or three pieces in a longer box
Dark pads make silver and diamonds stand out. Light pads suit gold, rose gold and coloured stones.
Why are jewellery boxes made in rigid board?
A folding card box this small feels flimsy and dents easily in a bag. Greyboard keeps its shape, the lid fits snugly and the box can be kept for years on a dressing table.
The board is wrapped in paper, and that paper can be printed in full colour, plain coloured or textured. Our green sample uses a paper with a fine glitter grain.
Rigid styles are quoted higher than our folding card starting point of £0.25 a box. Your quote shows the real figure for your size and finish.
How should a jewellery box be printed?
Most jewellers keep it simple: one colour paper and a foil logo on the lid. Gold foil on brown, as on the drawer sample, reads well at a glance. Rose gold foil is popular with gold-plated ranges.
Debossing presses the logo into the lid so it can be felt as well as seen. It works on small boxes where a printed logo would have to be tiny.
If your boxes sit in a glass cabinet, print the side of the drawer sleeve too. That is the face a customer sees when boxes are stacked. More on this is in our guide to foil, matt and soft-touch finishes.
When do people give boxed jewellery?
Valentine's Day, anniversaries, engagements and birthdays bring the most orders. Bridesmaid gifts and Mother's Day are steady too.
Many makers use one box all year and add a printed sleeve or a ribbon for each occasion. That keeps stock simple while the gift still looks chosen.
Corporate jewellery gifts follow a different pattern. Pins, cufflinks and engraved pendants for long service or retirement are often ordered in one batch, so the box can carry the company logo and the recipient's piece stays the focus.
How do I post a jewellery box safely?
Put the rigid box inside a small padded mailer or a tight card mailer. The box protects the piece, and the mailer protects the box.
Drawer boxes can slide open in transit. A thin belly band or a small sticker across the opening keeps the tray in its sleeve.
We send your order by free tracked UK mainland delivery, normally 2–3 working days. Damage or misprints reported with photos within 10 days are reprinted or refunded.
Common jewellery box mistakes
Ordering a ring box for earrings. A ring slot will not hold studs, and a pierced pad will not hold a ring. Decide the insert per piece type.
Making the box too deep. A necklace in a 60 mm high box slides around under the lid. Keep chains in a shallow box with a snug pad.
Choosing a tiny printed logo. On a 60 mm lid, small text fills in. Use foil or debossing, and keep the logo simple.
Forgetting the outer stock. If you sell online, order mailers sized to the box at the same time, or the box will rattle about in a bag that is too big.

Jewellery Gift box questions
Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or call +44 7578 382054.
Can one jewellery box hold a ring and earrings together?
Yes. A longer pad with a ring slot and two pierced holes fits a set. Our green sample holds a pair of earrings above a ring.
Is the pad in a jewellery box foam or card?
Usually foam with a soft covering. Card inserts with cut-outs suit sets in larger boxes.
Can I have a drawer jewellery box with a ribbon pull?
Yes. A short ribbon tab on the tray front lets you slide it out. You choose the ribbon colour.
What colour pad suits silver jewellery?
A dark pad shows silver and clear stones best. Cream or pale grey suits gold and pearls.
Can I order matching jewellery boxes in several colours?
Yes. Our samples show the same box in yellow and green. Each colour is quoted as its own line.
Will a jewellery box fit through a letterbox?
Ring, earring and necklace sizes are all shallow, so they usually do once in a slim mailer. Check the mailer size with your carrier.
Can the logo be debossed rather than printed?
Yes. Debossing presses it into the lid, and you can add foil inside the pressed area.
Do you make watch boxes?
A bracelet-size box with a cushion insert holds most watches. Send the case diameter and strap length.
Can I print inside the jewellery box lid?
Yes. A short message or your web address inside the lid is common and adds little to the cost.
Can a jewellery box have a magnetic closure?
Yes, in a slightly larger size. See our magnetic lid style for how the flap and magnets work.
How do I stop a drawer box sliding open in the post?
Add a belly band or a sticker across the opening. Both can be printed with your logo.
Are jewellery boxes made from folding card too?
We make them in rigid board, as small card boxes dent too easily. Rigid styles are quoted on your quote.
