What are presentation boxes?

Presentation boxes are rigid boxes made to show an item at the moment it is handed over. They open like a book, on a magnetic flap or with a lift-off lid, and usually hold the contents in a cut insert. Companies, schools and brands use them for awards, kits and launches.

What are presentation boxes used for?

They hold something that is handed over in person or opened in front of others. Typical contents are a glass award, a framed certificate, a set of product samples, a pen and notebook, or a voucher card.

Buyers include HR teams, event organisers, schools and clubs, agencies preparing press kits and brands sending launch packs to stockists.

The box often outlives the moment. A certificate box goes on a shelf, a sample kit stays on a buyer's desk, and an award box keeps the piece safe when it moves house.

For staff and client gifting more widely, see our custom corporate gift boxes, which share many of the same options.

Which opening style suits a presentation?

Our photos show four ways a presentation box can open, each suited to a different moment.

  • Magnetic flap: a teal sample with a white interior and a short line printed inside the lid. The flap lifts and the magnets pull it shut again.
  • Lid and base: a black sample with a thin light border printed around the lid. The lid lifts straight up, which suits a box handed over on a stage.
  • Book style with pull tab: a green cover with a fine pattern around a plain centre panel and contrasting edges. A small tab on the front edge opens it.
  • Book style with ribbon ties: a pale green sample tied shut, with a card recess inside sized for a gift card or voucher.

Book styles open in one movement and sit flat on a table, so the contents face the person receiving them.

What size presentation box do I need?

Lay out everything that goes inside, including any card or leaflet. Measure the outline it makes, then the tallest item. Inserts need about 10 mm of board around each piece.

These are common starting sizes, not stock. We size each box to your contents, and our guide to measuring gift box inside sizes shows how.

How are presentation box inserts made?

The insert is what makes a presentation box look deliberate. Every item has its own place, and nothing slides when the lid opens.

Card inserts are cut and folded, and can be printed to match the box. Foam is cut in layers and holds glass and metal firmly. Pulp is moulded and suits sets of bottles or jars.

A finger notch beside each item helps people lift it out. Our guide to card, foam and pulp inserts compares the three.

Why use rigid board for presentation?

A presentation box is often held up in front of a room or photographed. Rigid greyboard keeps flat panels and sharp corners, so it looks right on camera.

Weight matters too. A rigid box has a reassuring heft in the hand, and the hinge on a book style or magnetic cover keeps working after hundreds of openings at a trade stand.

The paper wrap can be printed edge to edge, or you can choose a plain coloured paper and add foil. Rigid styles cost more than our folding card start of £0.25 a box, and your quote shows the difference.

What print and finishes work on presentation boxes?

Company presentation boxes often use one paper colour from the brand palette, with the logo in foil. Pantone matching keeps the colour close to your other printed material.

Printing inside the lid is the space people read when the box opens. The teal sample uses it for a short line in a matching colour, and it adds little to the cost.

Embossing raises a crest or logo from the cover. Spot UV can add a gloss pattern on a matt cover, a subtle way to fill a large lid.

A thin printed or foiled border around the lid, like the black sample, frames a logo without crowding it. Keep the line at least a few millimetres in from the edge so it does not wrap over the corner.

Which events call for presentation boxes?

Award evenings, long service milestones, retirements and graduations are the steady ones. Product launches, trade shows and press days bring larger one-off orders.

Schools and clubs use the A4 size for certificates. Drinks and beauty brands use sample kit sizes for stockists and reviewers.

Agencies building influencer and press packs tend to order small runs at short notice. Send the brief early, even before the products are final, so the box and insert can be planned in parallel.

Can presentation boxes go in the post?

They can, inside an outer carton with some fill. Glass awards should have a foam insert, as card alone will not stop a heavy piece moving.

Book style boxes travel well because nothing sticks out. Add a belly band or a small seal across the front edge so the cover stays closed inside the carton.

For an event, ask us to deliver the boxes to the venue or your office. Delivery is free and tracked to UK mainland addresses, usually 2–3 working days after production.

Mistakes to avoid with presentation boxes

Ordering the box before the contents are final. If a bottle or award changes shape, the insert will not fit. Confirm the items first.

Leaving no finger room. A snug insert with no notch means people tip the box to get the item out.

Booking too late for an event date. Allow for the quote, the proof and 8–10 working days of production, plus delivery.

Putting too much on the cover. A presentation box is seen up close, so one logo and a short line read better than a busy layout.

How do I order presentation boxes?

  1. Collect one of each item that will go inside, or exact drawings of them.
  2. Choose the opening style: book, magnetic flap or lid and base.
  3. Choose card, foam or pulp for the insert.
  4. Send your logo and any wording for inside the lid.
  5. We reply with a quote within one working day.
  6. Approve the free proof, and we make and deliver the boxes.

If your event has a fixed date, mention it when you request a presentation box quote so we can plan back from it.

Presentation box questions

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp or call +44 7578 382054.

Can a presentation box hold an A4 certificate flat?

Yes. The A4 size holds a certificate flat on a card base, with a ribbon or tab to lift it out.

Do presentation boxes come with a foam insert?

Foam is one option. Card and pulp inserts are also available, cut to the shape of your items.

Can each presentation box carry a different name?

Names usually go on a printed card or sticker inside, as each box in a print run is the same.

What closure is best for a box opened on stage?

A lid and base lifts straight up and shows the contents at once. A magnetic flap also works if the hinge faces away from the audience.

Can a sample kit box hold bottles of different heights?

Yes. The insert is cut deeper for taller bottles, so all the tops sit level when the lid opens.

Can the inside of the lid be printed?

Yes. A message, a contents list or your logo inside the lid is a common choice.

Can a presentation box be closed with ribbon ties?

Yes. Ribbons are fixed under the cover and the base, and the box ties shut at the front.

What is the difference between a book style and a magnetic presentation box?

Both open on a hinge. The magnetic version has magnets hidden in the flap; the book style closes with a tab, ties or friction.

Can I fit a voucher card in a presentation box?

Yes. A shallow insert with a card-shaped recess holds a gift or voucher card centred in the box.

How heavy an award can a presentation box take?

Rigid board with a firm foam insert holds glass and metal awards. Tell us the weight so we can plan the insert.

Can presentation boxes be delivered to an event venue?

Yes, to any UK mainland address. Give us a contact name and delivery hours for the venue.

Is there a deep presentation box for bottles?

The deep size suits a bottle laid down or a pair of glasses beside it, with a cut insert.
