Why choose folding card over a rigid box?

Folding card is the lowest-cost way to put your print on a gift. Boxes start from £0.25 each, and production takes 4–6 working days once you approve the proof.

Card also suits short-lived gifting. A gable box full of cupcakes or a birthday favour box does its job on the day, and the print is what people remember.

How does a foldable rigid box work?

The foldable gift box looks like a rigid magnetic box once built. Its side walls are scored so the box opens out from flat, and small magnets under the paper hold the walls and lid in place.

It is still wrapped greyboard, so it is quoted higher than folding card and takes 8–10 working days. The payoff is storage: a stack of flat boxes takes a fraction of the shelf space of built ones.

What do gable and birthday boxes carry best?

The handle on a gable box makes it easy to hand over and carry home. Think cupcakes, cookies, toys, party favours or a candle with a card.

Mistakes to avoid with folding boxes

The most common slip is sizing the box to the outside of the product with no room to spare. Cakes in cases, wrapped sweets and jars all need a few millimetres of clearance, or the lid bows when it closes.

The second is forgetting weight. A gable handle is fine for treats and favours, but a heavy jar or bottle needs a smaller box, an insert or a rigid style instead.

Last, check the artwork against the fold lines on your proof. Text that runs over a crease or under a glue flap is easy to miss until the boxes are built.

Which print and finishes suit card boxes?

Full colour print covers the outside, and printing inside adds a message under the lid or a pattern inside a gift card folder. Kraft board gives a natural brown base if you want a simpler look.

Matt, gloss or soft-touch lamination protects the print. Foil, embossing and spot UV work on card too, and a single foil logo on a gift card holder catches the light without needing much else.
